Cholera is a viral illness transmitted through contaminated water. Cholera occurs most commonly in regions of the world where there is inadequate sanitation, poor hygiene, overcrowding and a lack of safe water and food.
Cholera continues to occur in many developing countries including those in Africa and Asia and to a lesser extent in Central and South America and the Caribbean.
Cholera causes severe abdominal cramping pain, diarrhea. The resulting dehydration can be severe leading to shock and death.
Dukoral is an oral vaccine that is taken prior to travel that very effectively prevents Cholera and Traveler’s Diarrhea (ETEC infection). Initially two doses 1 week apart are required. Subsequent trips within a 5 year period require only 1 dose a minimum of one week prior to travel.
The Dukoral vaccine is very safe with negligible side effects.

If you have private health insurance through work or school you may be covered for vaccines. With your payment we will provide you with an invoice (with the unique Drug Identification Number for each vaccine) so you can claim your expenses back from your insurance company.
Insurance companies will require Drug Identification Numbers for each vaccine in order to reimburse you.
