Why get vaccinated?
The MMR vaccine is a three-in-one needle that contains the vaccines to protect against measles, mumps and rubella and should be given to children right after their first birthday and again between the ages 18 months and of 6 years of age.
Measles – is a serious infection which causes high fever, cough and rash and lasts 1-2 weeks.
Mumps – can cause fever, headaches and a swollen face due to infection of the salivary glands. Mumps can also affect the testicles in males and lead to infertility. Mumps can cause meningitis and 1 out of every 10 that have mumps will get meningitis. Mumps meningitis is usually mild.
Rubella (German Measles) – is a virus infection that causes fever, sore throat, swollen glands and rash. It is very dangerous for pregnant women and can result in severe problems for the fetus/baby. Rubella is usually mild in children
What are the risks of the vaccine?
Some mild reactions are fever, mild rash and swelling of glands and temporary pain and stiffness in joints.
