Tetanus & Diphtheria Vaccine in Toronto

Tetanus (Lockjaw) is caused by the Tetanus bacteria which are naturally found in soil and near rusting pieces of metal. The bacteria can enter into the body when there is a laceration, abrasion or any other penetrating injury to the individual.

It is a very dangerous illness with a high death rate.

In Canada we vaccinate from infancy and by the time children are six years of age they have had five injections of Tetanus vaccine. The vaccine should then be repeated every 10 years for most people.

Tetanus vaccine is very safe and highly effective. Some people will have a sore injection site and a fever for 1-4 days after vaccination

DIPHTHERIA VACCINE

Diphtheria is an infection that is spread by coughing and sneezing. It causes pain and a thick covering in the back of the throat

It can lead to breathing problems, paralysis, heart failure, and even death.

Diphtheria vaccine is very safe and highly effective.

Vaccination begins in infancy and follows the same schedule as Tetanus vaccine.

PERTUSSIS VACCINE

Pertussis is an illness transmitted by the inhalation of respiratory droplets produced by an affected individual through coughing and sneezing.

The symptoms resemble a common cold in the first few days, after that the cough becomes the predominant feature.

In children the bouts of coughing can be followed by a whooping sound as the child takes in a deep breath. Hence in children this disease is frequently referred to as whooping cough. Pertussis can cause deaths in children.

In adults the bouts of coughing can be severe and relentless producing many sleepless nights and significant pains in the chest.

Pertussis vaccine is very safe and effective.

If you have private health insurance through work or school you may be covered for vaccines. With your payment we will provide you with an invoice (with the unique Drug Identification Number for each vaccine) so you can claim your expenses back from your insurance company.

Insurance companies will require Drug Identification Numbers for each vaccine in order to reimburse you.
